NEW YORK \u2013\nSeptember 4, 2019 \u2013 <\/strong>Adam McKay, the\nAcademy Award-winning writer\/director\/producer, and the team at Three Uncanny\nFour Productions today announced they are launching a new investigative podcast\nexploring the case of Jeffrey Epstein titled Broken: Jeffrey Epstein.<\/em> This is the first series from Adam\nDavidson and Laura Mayer at Three Uncanny Four Productions who will Executive\nProduce the podcast with McKay and Kevin Messick along with Julie K. Brown from\nthe Miami Herald, who also will serve as a Special Correspondent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hosted by journalist and bestselling author\nwriter Ariel Levy, the podcast will explore what happened before and after\nEpstein\u2019s most recent arrest, who was involved, and where the victims go from\nhere in the wake of his unexpected death. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Broken<\/em> will dig deeply into how some of the world\u2019s\nmost powerful politicians and billionaires apparently shared a common interest\nin trafficking girls, teenagers and young women, and thoughtfully look at how\nthe case reflects our society. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION TEAM<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

ADAM\nMCKAY<\/strong> <\/strong>is an Academy Award-winning\nwriter\/director\/producer. His most recent feature, the subversively comedic Vice<\/em>,\nreceived eight Academy Award, six BAFTA and five Golden Globe nominations. In\naddition, McKay received DGA and WGA nominations for Best Director and Best\nOriginal Screenplay. For TV, McKay executive produced and directed the HBO\npilot Succession<\/em> for which he won the 2018 DGA Award for Drama Series.\nWritten by Jesse Armstrong, the critically-acclaimed series, which was recently\nrenewed for a third season, has been nominated for 5 Emmy Awards, including\ndirecting for McKay. In 2015, McKay and Charles Randolph\u2019s film adaptation of The\nBig Short, <\/em>Michael Lewis\u2019s New York Times<\/em> best-seller about the\n2007\/2008 financial crisis, went on to receive Academy Award, BAFTA, Golden\nGlobe nominations for Best Picture and won the 2016 PGA for Best Picture. McKay\nearned Academy Award, BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations for Best Director, and\nhe and Randolph won Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards, BAFTA, WGA\nand USC Scripter Awards. McKay\u2019s next directorial project is the upcoming\nlimited series Showtime<\/em> for HBO, chronicling the 1980s Los Angeles\nLakers. Initially, McKay made his name in the comedy world. He is a founding\nmember of the Upright Citizens Brigade and a former head writer of Saturday\nNight Live<\/em>. While at SNL<\/em>, he began a successful collaboration with\nWill Ferrell that later extended into now classic films including Anchorman:\nThe Legend of Ron Burgundy <\/em>(2004), Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky\nBobby<\/em> (2006), and Step Brothers <\/em>(2008). He has also written,\ndirected and produced numerous other films, written for TV projects such as\nMichael Moore\u2019s The Awful Truth<\/em>, directed and produced on\nHBO’s Eastbound and Down, <\/em>and produced the\nEmmy-nominated Drunk History<\/em>. On Broadway, he directed the\nTony-nominated You\u2019re Welcome America.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

THREE UNCANNY FOUR PRODUCTIONS<\/strong> was co-founded by Adam Davidson and Laura\nMayer in partnership with Sony Music Entertainment. Davidson is a contributing\nwriter for The New Yorker<\/em> and a leading broadcaster and podcasting voice\nwho co-founded and co-hosted NPR\u2019s Planet\nMoney<\/em> and served as a frequent contributor to This American Life<\/em>.  His co-reporting on the episode \u201cThe\nGiant Pool of Money\u201d for This American\nLife<\/em> received the Peabody, DuPont-Columbia, and Polk Awards and was named\none of the top works of journalism of the decade by New York University\u2019s\nArthur L. Carter Journalism Institute. In addition, he has previously worked\nwith Adam McKay as a co-host of Gimlet Media\u2019s Surprisingly Awesome<\/em>\npodcast. Mayer, who started her career in radio as a producer across multiple\nshows at WNYC New York Public Radio including the Fishko Files<\/em> and On the\nMedia, <\/em>is a highly accomplished podcast producer. She previously oversaw\nall podcast production and launched dozens of shows for Panoply Media and also\nled the first season of production of Revisionist\nHistory. <\/em>Most recently, she was the Executive Producer for Show Development\nat Stitcher where she developed and produced numerous projects for the\ncompany\u2019s comedy-focused Earwolf network and Stitcher label.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ARIEL LEVY<\/strong> joins the project as the host of Broken<\/em>. A staff writer at The New Yorker<\/em> for over a decade, Levy\nreceived the National Magazine Award in 2013. Previously, she was a\ncontributing editor at New York<\/em>\nmagazine for twelve years. She is the author of the memoir The Rules do Not Apply<\/em>; her first book, Female Chauvinist Pigs<\/em>, and much of her reporting, has been focused\non the shifting meaning of gender in American society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JULIE K. BROWN<\/strong> is an investigative reporter with the Miami Herald<\/em>. During her 25-year career,\nshe has worked for a number of newspapers as a general assignment reporter,\ncrime and courts reporter, education reporter, night city editor and enterprise\neditor. Since 2013, she has been a member of the Herald\u2019s investigative team.\nShe won a Polk Award for justice reporting for \u201cPerversion of Justice,\u201d a\nseries about how a federal prosecutor in President Trump\u2019s cabinet helped a\nwealthy sexual predator avoid a lengthy prison sentence in Florida. In 2014,\nshe won an earlier Polk Award for her 2014 series about abuse and corruption in\nFlorida prisons, which also garnered the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice\nand Human Rights story of the year. Prior to the Herald, she worked for the Philadelphia Daily News<\/em>. She is a\ngraduate of Temple University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
